“I’m also thrilled that one of the members of our National Council on the Arts is here with us tonight. Barbara Prey is a visual artist and one with a strong connection to this evening’s theme. Barbara was commissioned by NASA to paint four pictures for their collection, including portraits the International Space Station, two of the space shuttles and the X-43 the worlds fastest aircraft. I’m now going to do something that’s risky which is going off script and I will point out that Barbara is not only relevant to today’s discussion she’s also one of my favorite painters. At the NEA, because we are the National Endowment for the Arts I’ve elected to put up actual paintings and there are six of my father’s and one of Barbara Preys and those are the only paintings we have in my office. So Barbara I look forwards…there you are, I look forward to your thoughts about the panels.”
